Over the last few years, cheese boards have become a staple of any good gathering. So whether you're planning your next elegant dinner party, or just enjoying a night-in with friends, follow this guide to create a cheese board to make memories over.
PICK YOUR CHEESES
(AKA: THE STAR OF THE BOARD)
Every cheese board starts with the perfect cheese. Luckily here at Miyoko’s Creamery , we're in no short supply of that! The cheeses you choose will set the tone for your board. Curious on how to perfectly pair your cheese? Check out our Cheese Pairing Guide here.
If you're not sure where to start, we recommend getting a couple different textures on the board. Think semi-hard cheeses next to soft, spreadable options. You'll also want to make sure you have a variety of flavors at play for your palate. The trick here is to choose options that are both uniquely exciting and deliciously complimentary. Using this as a starting point, pick 3-5 cheeses depending on the size of your board.
Play with presentation!
Our aged wheels each have a unique look both on the outside and inside, so be sure to cut open to reveal. Cutting a wheel in half, then resting one piece at an angle on top of the other also adds great dimension to your board. Get creative: wedges, larger chunks, or whatever you can imagine. Our softer cheeses can be placed simply as a wheel, or transferred into a ramekin for easy spreading. Adding a few simple toppings can also spice up these cheeses— including a handful of pistachios, a drizzle of vegan honey, or even some fresh berries.
VEHICLES FOR YOUR CHEESE
(WE'RE TALKING CRACKERS, NOT CARS!)
What's cheese without a cracker? An iconic duo for a reason, every good cheese board needs 2-4 vehicles— crackers, crostini, bagel chips— to enjoy with your perfectly picked cheeses. There are so many wonderful varieties of crackers to choose from, we love Rustic Bakery or Simple Mills. Have fun arranging these on your board; fan them out, alternating options for an eye-catching pattern, or place them in a line to create sections.
THE ESSENTIAL ACCOUTREMENT
Accoutrement is cheese board speak for delicious additions— such as fruits, nuts, preserves… or whatever else your heart desires! Again, check out our Cheese Pairing Guide to find the perfect match for your cheese selections. Some of our favorites include: lemon marmalade, crisp grapes, fig jam, dried apricots, fresh raspberry preserves, olive tapenade, candied almonds, and cornichons.
CHANNEL YOUR INNER CHEESE BOARD ARTIST
It’s assemblin’ time! Based on the size of your cheese board, lay out your cheeses, and build around them by cascading a cracker stack, or artfully placing a pile of nuts or a bunch of grapes. Add ramekins and small jars to bring dimension. When you're happy with your board, snap a quick pic for the ‘gram, serve, and enjoy! Be sure to provide knives to cut and spread the cheeses.
