At Miyoko’s, we prioritize sustainability in everything we do, as we know that the health of our planet is critical to our success and sustainability. From responsible sourcing and waste reduction to minimizing our carbon footprint and supporting conservation efforts, we’re committed to doing our part to protect the planet.
Our Environmental Impact
Specifically, with our partners at Mammoth Climate, we are working to quantify and map our environmental impact across three key categories: carbon, land, and water. This will allow us to identify our hotspots and create a roadmap to reduce our footprint. We are also working on creating impact labels to educate consumers about the impact of their choices and help them make more sustainable decisions. Ultimately, our goal is to create a transparent and sustainable supply chain from farm to consumer.
Responsible Sourcing
We believe that responsible sourcing practices make a difference for people and the planet. We go above and beyond organic with our sourcing practices, working with our suppliers to implement regenerative practices on the farm level. We’re also gaining visibility on our scope 3 emissions, which are all the indirect emissions that come from our supply chain (such as the farming of cashews). Using this data, we can tailor our sourcing projects to have the biggest positive impact possible. By doing this, we not only create a more sustainable supply chain but also support the livelihoods of farming communities. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the year!
Minimizing Waste
Lastly, we understand that waste is a significant contributor to climate change, accounting for about 20% of human-driven methane emissions globally. We take a proactive approach to minimize our waste from packaging to manufacturing. We have established robust systems for managing waste through composting and recycling programs. We are also proud to partner with Replate to donate surplus food from our operations to non-profit organizations fighting for a more sustainable and equitable future for all. While we continue to work towards finding long-term solutions to reduce plastic use entirely from our packaging, we work with How2Recycle to provide standardized recycling information to our consumers, which reduces confusion and encourages more recycling.
Since we started working with Replate in May 2021, we've donated 292,692.9 lbs of food, amounting to 80,136,389 gal of water saved, 243,911 meals served, and 600,020 lbs of Co2 diverted.
Our planet is a key stakeholder in our business – and through these initiatives, we aim to drive positive change, protect the planet, and build a more sustainable future for all. Thank you for joining us on this journey towards a better future.
